Tip of the Week 68

As the fishing season winds down, I would suggest using this extra time to properly clean your reels. I recommend first cleaning all parts of your reel. Next, you should grease all of the gears. Most reel companies sell their own grease and I would recommend buying from the company that you got your reel from. This will insure that you are using the right product for your reel and that it won’t be damaged. You should finish off this process by oiling your bearings. You don’t want to put too much oil on them though, so I would suggest one drop per bearing. After that, reassemble your reel, make sure everything is working properly, and then you should be good to go. Cleaning your reel like this will help to elongate the life of your reel and make sure it is performing at its best.
