After a great day in the Potholes, I figured that Lake Sammamish would be extremely productive and decided to go out and give it a try. I was still a little tired from the day before, so I slept in a little later than I would have liked and got a late start to the day. I hadn’t fished the Vasa park area in quite a while, so I decided to start the day around there. I fished the docks and the pilings in that area, but wasn’t able to muster a bite. The thought of catching a largemouth still lingered in my head from the other day, so I decided to go to the far north end of the lake and fish the brushpiles and lillies around there. There were lots of weeds surrounding the area, so I worked a spinnerbait right over the top of them and tried to lure the bass out of the weeds. Unfortunately, the elusive largemouth continued in its ways and I wasn’t able to get a bite. Since I was already near the north end, I decided to move over to fish Eagle Point and Bass Cove. These docks are usually very fruitful, but the wind was so bad that it made it almost impossible to make accurate casts and feel my line, so I was forced to move on. After analyzing the wind, I figured that the right hand (east) side of the lake would be protected from the wind, so I headed over to my favorite rock dock. Once again, I came up empty handed and I knew that I needed to get a bass in the boat, so I moved over to my favorite v-shaped dock. I cast right over to the bend in the v and right away I felt my line get heavy. I set the hook and after a nice fight was able to land a solid 2.5 pound smallmouth. A few docks later, I cast over to the right pillar of the dock and saw my line take off the other way. I set the hook and landed a solid 1.8 pound smallmouth bass. Shortly after, I landed a tiny 0.4 pound smallmouth. I then turned the corner and began making my way toward the two-tiered dock. On the dock immediately before the double decker, I cast in between the second and third pillar and saw my pole begin to load up. I set the hook and landed a nice 1.9 pound smallmouth. After that the bite went cold and I decided to head in and call it a day.

Observations: The water temperature ranged from 72-76 degrees, which is about what I would expect after all of the warm weather that we have been having. The bass that I caught were found in 10-25 feet of water and were all holding really tight to cover. This was only my second time using Poor Boy’s Baits Erie Darter, but these drop shot worms have quickly become one of my new favorites. Their extra bulkiness seems to attract big bass and all of the fish I’m catching, except for a few here and there, are above 1.5 pounds, which is great. All in all, a very solid day of bass fishing on Lake Sammamish.
